Galena Lodge

img_5334With Ketchum still surrounded by smoke, the hills of Galena have become our entertainment. Galena Lodge is the only form of civilization out here and it is just a few miles down the road from us. They have a restaurant, bike shop, horse rides, and miles of hiking and biking trails from their backdoor. During the winter it is a hub for xcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. They even have several Yurts that you can rent during the winter months on your xcountry excursions.

Today I rented a bike from their shop and we took off on “The Grinder Trail” and ended up coming back by way of the “Psycho Trail”. It was mostly single track dodging in and out of trees with roots sticking out mid trail. I haven’t been on a mountain bike for so long I forgot how to brake downhill and had a small incident involving my handlebars and a tree I was trying to turn away from. Luckily, no one got hurt.

The lodge has a rich history and was ultimately rescued from obscurity by Teresa Heinz a little over a decade ago. Here’s a little article about the history of Galena in case you are interested…

Also, what to do with a leaky air mattress? Float it down the river to find 3 holes … and create 10 more in the process!

The air mattress thing sounds like one of Andre’s birght ideas. He even managed to sink our inflatable boat with a itty bitty little fish once.

Thep, as I remember… you were the one that caught that ‘huge’ fish.
