Evacuation
Well, it finally happened. After a week of staying at Murdock Creek, we were booted. As part of the mandatory fire evacuation, we were given until midnight last night to vacate the area. This was hard to do considering it was the first crystal blue sky day we had seen since the fire started. The fire is probably only 2 miles away from the Sawtooth Visitor Center which we were camping behind and which they are now using as a headquarters for refueling the helicopters that are fighting the fires. We took a quick trip to town to resupply before heading out of our space and found that the fire had divided and part of it was getting closer to Ketchum. The flames could be seen from the highway on our way in and half the town was stopped on the side of the road watching it get closer to their homes. The smoke was getting worse as we finished our errands and we were relieved when we made it back out of town before they closed the highway. So, we are now about 20 miles north of Ketchum, by Galena summit and hoping the fire doesn’t follow us here.
