Evel Knievel

img_0318We are camped in the Shoshone national forest, home to one of the largest grizzly bear populations in the US and Evel Knievel, the kamikaze woodpecker living in a tree next to the rv. The ‘Northern Flicker’ woodpecker has been entertaining us with spectacular exits from the nest where he vigorously defends his screaming babies inside. Earlier today Evil was doing battle with a squirrel which eventually submitted to Evel’s superior acrobatic skills after they met on branch high up in a pine tree. Tomorrow Janet and I are going climbing at Wild Iris less than a mile away and later this week we are heading towards Jackson.
