Mail run to Wikieup
Elderly voice: ‘Wikieup post office, this is Joyce, can I help you?’
Me: ‘Hi Joyce, I am expecting a package for general delivery. Could you tell me if it arrived?’
Joyce: ‘I am afraid we cannot give out that type information over the phone.’
Me: ‘It is a rather long drive for me and I was hoping to know before I make the drive into town.’
Joyce: ‘What is your name?’
Me: ‘Andre Dreyer’
Joyce: ‘Hang on………… All I can tell you is that if I was you I would come and check in person.’
Me: ‘Thanks Joyce. I will be there soon
’
This is my 5th general delivery mail package since May. The others were addressed to Ketchum, ID; Rio Frio, TX; Jackson, WY and Moab, UT. There is a certain coolness factor in receiving a package addressed to: Andre Dreyer, Wikieup, AZ, 85360 - so basic. My friend Glenn had the good idea that I should keep the envelopes as trip memorabilia and maybe do a poster afterwards, so now I am saving them all. I try to time things to receive mail at the smaller post offices where the people you meet are always more interesting and the buildings smaller than you can imagine. I am still sad that I never got Moose, WY … there is always next year.
