Clowns of the Desert

img_5715Seek and you shall find…. a perfect camp spot amongst the ‘Clowns of the Desert’. From Wikieup I turned west onto Chicken Springs Road and started climbing immediately. The gravel road is in pretty good shape but I had to use low range 4wd on the steeper sections for more control over the washboard - I suspect this area don’t see too many RV’ers. En route I talked to a pair of scruffy looking quail hunters who provided handy information on the camping options in the area. After 2 hours and 15 miles I turned south on Alamo road and then east into a beautiful joshua tree forest. I once read in the Lonely Planet travel guide that joshua trees are called the ‘Clowns of the Desert’ but I have not been able to verify this on the internet? They are pretty funny though.
